Description:

The DSM 5 Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art tool for conducting a cultural assessment in mental health settings.  By administering the CFI, clinicians engage individuals in meaningful discussions about their cultural views and experiences and restores the client’s voice to the clinical encounter.  The CFI brings forth the critical, influencing characteristics, views and cultural practices that affect how a person experiences a mental health issue, information essential to effective treatment engagement, planning and intervention.

Objective:

This 2.5-hour training provides a comprehensive overview of the components of the CFI and how to use the core CFI and Supplemental Modules.  Through discussion, video presentation and training exercises, participants will develop knowledge and skills in conducting a cultural assessment using the CFI.

Intended Audience:
This training is intended for clinical mental health service providers.
Session Notes:
This training is for new Mental Health Division staff and staff who were unable to attend the initial DMS-5 CFI trainings
